After being postponed last week due to the weather the U13’s Wilts County Cup Semi Final between Greenmeadow and Swindon Supermarine finally got played on 28th February.
Supermarine had very kindly said that the Semi could be played on the first team pitch, so 9.30 on a bright and crisp morning the team and parents turned up.
Not only was this the Semi Final of the Wilts County Cup but it was also a day where we all dug deep in our pockets to give to CALM -The Children’s Cancer and Lukeamia movement to support Declan who has recently been diagnosed with Cancer. Declans dad Marcus came along to support the game.
Here’s both teams with managers as well as Marcus and if you look you may just spot Julie
Cakes galore were on display outside the Club house and Julia did a roaring trade of hot drinks and cake all proceeds to CALM. Please donate at www.justgiving.com/Markus-Lehmann
Pete Lango won the guess the number of sweets in the box – no surprise there really!
In all £450 was raised which is a brilliant achievement.
Now on to the match!
Supermarine kicked off. Greenmeadow were straight in and very nearly scored in the first seconds of the match.
Greenmeadow were really gunning for it after the loss the previous weekend in the JPL cup.
Attack after attack from the boys in green. Some great runs from Harry down the left wing all nullified by John in goal. John was superb, saving everything Greenmeadow threw at him.
Everything that is until Tom Pitt got the ball in the Supermarine half and either took a cheeky shot or attempted a cross. Ask Tom which it was! Either way the result was the ball ended up in the top corner. Greenmeadow had cracked Supermarines defence.
The first half continued in much the same way. Greenmeadow pressing Supermarine and having shots on goal.
Any breaks by Supermarine were mopped up by the Meadow defence.
The second half started and Supermarine came out determined to make more of an impression pushing up into the Greenmeadow half. One break provoking a save from Ben in goal.
After a few minutes of this Greenmeadow took the upper hand once again and pushed Supermarine back into their half.
10 minutes later and Jamie had a run down the wing, took it into the middle past a couple of player, passed it across to Harry who blasted it past John into the goal! 2-0
A few minutes later and a scrabble in the Supermarine penalty area and Tobias took advantage and slotted the ball in for a third goal.
The rest of the match carried on in much the same vein with Greenmeadow dominating and John pulling off saves to keep Supermarine in it.
We’d like to thank Supermarine U13’s for a great game played in the right way.
We’d also like to thank the Swindon Supermarine Club for allowing us to play on the first team pitch and to collect for CALM.
All in all a brilliant day!
Here are some photos from the match.
Next up for the boys is at Beversbrook Sports Facility on 13th March for the Semi final of the U14’s North Wilts Cup!
